From the Artist: "Chet" was the dominant Percheron gelding in our herd, gentle and intelligent. He was life-long teammate to Sam (depicted in another painting). Sam was deaf and Chet seemed to understand his handicap.  In his silent world, Sam would often not notice when the herd had moved to another area or pasture or were getting called into the barn for care. Chet would make a point to alert Sam if he hadnt noticed.  He would never come into the barn until his mate Sam was in.  It was a unique phenomenon to witness.  Both of those horses have since passed. This was my tribute to a great horse.
